| Salt and Pepper | To taste |
🔪 Instructions
1. Prepare the Beans
Place the rinsed and dried black beans into a large mixing bowl.
Using a potato masher or the back of a large fork, mash the beans until about two-thirds of them are broken down. Leave one-third of the beans whole—this provides essential texture and helps the patty hold together better.
2. Season and Bind
Add the Onion Garlic Powder Blend, breadcrumbs, egg (or flax egg mixture), smoked paprika, cumin, soy sauce, salt, and pepper to the bowl.
Mix everything together thoroughly with a wooden spoon or your hands until well combined, being careful not to overmix or over-mash the remaining whole beans. The mixture should be thick and slightly sticky.
3. Form and Chill
Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Form each portion into a patty, about ¾-inch thick.
Place the patties on a plate or tray lined with parchment paper.
Chill the patties in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This step is vital—it firms up the binder and ensures the patties won't crumble when cooked.
4. Cook the Burgers
Pan-Fry: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side, until they are deep golden brown and heated through.
Bake: Place the chilled patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 190°C (375°F) for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Serve on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings!
